Special places for drinking and eating outdoors: all of Bergamo's summer options
Have you decided on Bergamo for one of your summer weekends? A journey between the two souls of the city: the upper part, the historic center surrounded by the Venetian walls (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017) and the lower part, the modern city filled with shops and monuments.
Bergamo is only 6 kilometers from Orio al Serio International Airport (also known as the Caravaggio International Airport and the third busiest airport in Italy after Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa), making it an ideal weekend getaway destination.
Between June and September, and among the thousands of activities to do during the long summer days, you can’t miss the chance to have a drink and a good dinner to fully enjoy the summer evenings. But where? We'll give you some great tips: city summer outdoor options! The city's parks transform into venues for the entire season, shaking up Bergamo's social life until nearly mid-September.
Do you want to find out more? Keep on reading.
Summer in Astino
Let's start with the closest location: the Monastery of Astino and you can go there from our B&B in a 10-minute walk surrounded by greenery.
Here you can choose to enjoy a dinner between two excellent proposals:
The space inside the cloister, the garden and the stalls between the ancient brolo and the Guala tower and a new room on the ground floor are managed by Cavour 1880: paccheri, casoncelli, pastries, gourmet pizzas and a wide selection of wines.
The outdoor space is managed by Da Mimmo: pizza, hamburgers, vegetarian recipes, desserts and various summer dishes in the menu.
Goisis Park
Goisis Park is located on Viale Giulio Cesare in the Monterosso neighborhood.
Every year, an outdoor summer venue is set up, and here you can find a variety of restaurants and bars that have created a rich menu for the season, all for you to try.
At the Goisis space you can find: Tandem Daste, Kindness pizzeria, Caffé dei Portici, Barrier Cafe, Borghetto Tartareria, Schiaccia, De Gusto and Privo gluten-free.
And for the little ones, there is a special area (with a tent full of toys!) where they can have fun while the older ones enjoy their dinner. Plenty of parking space available nearby.
Sant’Agostino Park
Giro Mura, the summer in Sant'Agostino Park, is staged in Viale delle Mura, the road to Città Alta, the upper part of the city.
A green space that comes alive from early June to mid-September with music, events and a varied food and wine menu that also includes cuisine options from far-off nations like Mexican food, bubble tea and poke bowl.
These are the restaurants and bars that will breathe life inside of the walls of Sant’Agostino Park: Pozzo Bianco, FlyPub, Pub dell'Angelo, Elav Kitchen, Tucan's, Il Dispensario, Poke Kal, Mas Mexico, Maspy Pizzeria, Cose Buone.
Edoné
A small venue in winter that moves outdoors to Redona's South Park in the summer: Edoné is one of the city's most distinctive and innovative venues. In fact, the Edoné Youth Space has become a city’s go-to.
During the summer, it hosts events and live music, which are always matched with excellent food options.
Social Pub Bombonera
Bombonera Social Pub on Tommaso Grossi Street is another option for outdoor dining. We're in the Villaggio degli Sposi area, and the pizza in pala is the symbol of this place: high hydration, light, crispy, and superdigestible.
The menu is constantly changing, but you can always expect to find traditional, regionally-sourced dishes with a distinct Bergamo twist.
Fabric into the woods
We're on the outskirts of town, but Fabric into the woods is worth a mention. We are in Torre Boldone, very close to the Adventure Park and surrounded by vegetation, not far from the city. Drinks and dinner two minutes from Bergamo, in an oasis of green and peace, Fabric into the woods satisfies all tastes and needs with food and wine options ranging from burgers to pizza, from traditional to innovative and trendy dishes, not to mention completely vegan options.
There is plenty of parking nearby, and it is accessible by tram (Martinella stop) and the Seriana Valley bike path from Bergamo.
Frontemura - Happening party
A perfect summer sunset in Via Delizia, between the neighborhoods of Monterosso and Redona, above Goisis Park. Because the Frontemura vineyards extend between the walls of Città Alta and the Maresana hill: every Friday and Saturday night in summer, it is filled with pillows, blankets, and tables for an unforgettable evening surrounded by unique panoramic views, nature and the cool summer breeze.
It's "Frontemura, it's Happening," a different summer in town, with a cocktail bar, wine corner with sommelier and house products, and a tap with beer and organic beverages, accompanied by rustic platters with local products: cold cuts, cheeses, flatbreads, grilled vegetables and fruit. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well. There are plenty of free parking spaces just before entering Via della Delizia, and you can walk for five minutes from there.
Daste
What is now a creative space, was once an industrial building. Daste is located in the Celadina neighborhood and was originally a thermoelectric power plant that is now completely torn down. A gathering place, a place for socialization and creativity. Daste's spaces are divided into Event Spaces, Bistros, and much more.
The Bistrot has a large outdoor area and is open all day for breakfast, lunch, drinks, snacks, dinner, and after-dinner, with tastes and flavors ranging from traditional to innovative.ll’innovazione.
