Here comes the summer and with it comes the time to enjoy the long, beautiful days: let's start making plans.
Bergamo and its entire province are full of outdoor options for one-day trips or weekend getaways.
Are you curious to find out more? Read on, we have selected the best ideas to experience an all-Bergamo summer.
The Monastery of Astino
As you probably know, our B&B is located in the Astino Valley and near an ancient monastery.
We are located near the Allegrezza woods, east of the spur of the Benaglia Hill, north of San Sebastiano and the Bastia and San Vigilio Hills. To the west is the Hill dominated by the Villa Bagnada and the Presati Castle. The Astino Valley is a quiet and peaceful place, from which various pedestrian and bicycle routes for great summer excursions start: from here you can head east to the Longuelo district, west to the San Martino Valley, and north to San Sebastiano and the Bastia and San Vigilio Hills. And in the evening? Reach Città Alta, the heart and historic center of Bergamo.
Previously a place of worship, the monastery is today a center for culture and nightlife. Exhibitions, events and concerts are often held here, especially in the summer. You can have dinner at one of the restaurants open during the summer season and on Sundays you can plan a trip to the Botanical Garden to learn about biodiversity.
Looking for the giant benches
Have you ever come across a giant bench?

The giant benches are the outcome of a project intended at enhancing little-known territories, supporting local artisanal businesses and promoting slow and sustainable tourism. Its creator is Chris Bangle, who organized an art installation in Clavesana, Piedmont, in 2010.
It is an outsized bench in a natural setting, accessible to everyone, that makes you feel like a child and look at the view from a different perspective.
Fonteno, San Fermo, Parre and Schilpario... Come to Bergamo and have fun looking for them all across our province!
Serio Waterfalls
Every summer, five extraordinary openings for a beauty of nature that has no equals: we are talking about the Serio Waterfalls, the highest in Italy and on the second step of the European podium, with their triple drop of 315 meters.

We are in the heart of the Seriana Valley, in Valbondione, in the Maslana basin, where the Serio River was diverted in 1931 to allow the construction of a dam used to generate hydroelectric power. The facility reopens five times between the months of June and October, this year on the following days: Sunday, June 19 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, July 16 at 10:00 p.m. with a night show; and Sundays, August 21, September 11, and October 9 at 11:00 a.m.
How to get there? Starting from Valbondione, hike for an hour and a half up the simple mule track to reach Rifugio Curò (CAI trail marker 305).
The Vertova Valley and its waterfalls
Immersed in nature? In Val Vertova, one of the best hikes is an easy mule track on a very slight uphill slope. This makes Val Vertova ideal for a family trip along a trail that follows a stream of crystal-clear water that keeps turning into little lakes and little waterfalls. During the summer you can even swim there.
Bergamo on two wheels
There are countless bike trails in the Bergamo area that are meant for all two-wheel enthusiasts, such as the Val Seriana bike path, that starts from Alzano Lombardo and follows the Serio River up the valley, passing through forests, parks, medieval bridges and villages rich in art and history.
The Val Brembana cycling path starts in Zogno (approximately 20 kilometers from Bergamo) and runs through the valley to Piazza Brembana, nearly entirely following an ancient train track that ran along the Brembo River between sheer rock cliffs until the 1960s.

The Val Cavallina is a little valley with a great deal of charm, and it can be covered entirely on two wheels from Trescore Balneario to Lake Endine. Another bike path runs off from the nature trail around Serio Park, parallel to the river, and the city is connected to its airport by a path designed for bicycles and pedestrians.
The Imagna Valley has its own bike route, the Chitò bike path, a 4 km track built on the old site of a water canal that powered the Clanezzo hydroelectric power plant. Look down, there are a lot of grates that allow you to see the original waterway below.
Between nature and history
An outdoor stroll through nature and culture takes you from Oneta, a village in San Giovanni Bianco, to Cornello del Tasso, one of Italy's most beautiful villages. The Via Mercatorum is for you. You can visit Harlequin's House in Oneta and the postal history museum in Cornello del Tasso. Did you know that this is where the postal service as we know it today was born?
Bergamo is a land full of history, as proven by the many castles you can find in our valleys and plains. Fortresses and castles, such as the Malpaga Castle, which was home to the famous captain Bartolomeo Colleoni.
It's picnic time!
Get your picnic basket and blankets ready! There are so many places where you can treat yourself to a lunch on the lawn in the open air.

You can find special pitches and picnic areas at Lake Endine and Lake Iseo, and many also have play areas for kids.
You will find shelters and refuges on the peaks of our Orobie mountains, as well as wide green spaces along the way, that are ideal for a picnic. What about those who stay in town? No problem, there is the Trucca Park inside the Villaggio degli Sposi or the Maresana, the hill on the outskirts of town, which is our traditional summertime place to go to.
